Job summary

TBT Engineering Limited is seeking an experienced structural engineer to lead design and detailing across commercial and institutional buildings. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and oversee more junior staff while ensuring efficient, compliant project delivery.

The role emphasizes mentorship, coordination with clients and regulators, and active participation in budgeting and scheduling. A civil/structural engineering diploma and 10+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Technology from an accredited institution.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in structural analysis and design of commercial or institutional buildings.
• Proficient with structural design and modeling software and knowledge of building codes and standards.
• Strong leadership, communication and project management skills, with mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

Position Description

Contribute to the preparation of structural design projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across diverse engineering divisions in a dynamic and growth-oriented environment. Apply advanced technical knowledge in the analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems for commercial, residential, and institutional buildings. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality oversight while guiding junior staff and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.

Position Responsibilities

• Execute design for Structural Engineering projects for building structures, including design, analysis, and detailing of steel, concrete, timber, and composite systems.
• Prepare and review structural drawings, specifications, calculations, and construction documentation.
• Conduct structural analysis and assessments to ensure safety, performance, and compliance with applicable building codes and standards.
• Lead coordination with clients, consultants, architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure effective project delivery.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate staff, promoting technical growth and professional development.
• Support project management tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.
• Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, codes, and municipal requirements.
• Contribute to proposal development and business development initiatives through client engagement and technical input.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in Structural Engineering for buildings, supported by a diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering or Architectural Technology from an accredited institution. The role requires 10+ years of relevant experience in the structural analysis and design of commercial or institutional buildings. Candidates should be proficient with structural design and modeling software and have a thorough understanding of applicable building codes, standards, and industry practices. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential, with proven experience mentoring technical staff and managing multidisciplinary projects.

This position is classified as full time. Rate of pay will be commensurate with related experience and qualifications ($32.47 per hour +).
