Job summary

Intertek in Mississauga, ON is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team in the Mississauga office. This role supports modular housing and factory-built structures across residential, commercial, and industrial projects, with a strong emphasis on North American codes and standards.

You will conduct design reviews, perform field inspections, prepare detailed reports, and provide technical guidance to clients and internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience with factory-built, modular, residential, commercial, or industrial construction.
  • Strong understanding of North American building codes, construction standards, and inspection practices.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel regularly.
  • Professional designation or relevant certifications are considered an asset.
  • French reading and writing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct drawing and design reviews to ensure compliance with applicable North American building codes, standards, and project specifications for factory-built residential, commercial, and industrial structures.
  • Perform inspections of structural systems and building components for buildings constructed using wood, steel, and other materials across multiple occupancy classifications.
  • Verify compliance of structural and building components with approved drawings, specifications, applicable building codes, and construction standards.
  • Independently perform field inspections, evaluations, and technical assessments while making sound on-site decisions in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and interpretation of applicable codes and standards to clients, manufacturers, and internal teams.
  • Support resolution of technical issues identified during inspections, audits, and project reviews.
  • Assemble and maintain Factory Audit Manuals and Certification Listing Reports based on quality control documentation, technical findings, and audit results.
  • Conduct Quality Control Audits and Technical Inspections at manufacturing facilities producing modular and factory-built structures.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and quality systems to ensure ongoing compliance with certification requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare detailed inspection, audit, and compliance reports with clear documentation of findings and corrective actions.

What you'll do:

Participate in technical meetings, industry association events, and ongoing professional development activities.

Business Development & Client Relations
  • Support business development initiatives by identifying new project opportunities and fostering strong client relationships within the modular, residential, commercial, and industrial construction sectors.
  • Collaborate with the sales and operations teams to determine project scope, prepare pricing estimates, and establish project timelines.
  • Act as a technical resource during client meetings, proposal development, and project discussions.
  • Maintain regular communication with existing clients to ensure satisfaction, identify additional service opportunities, and support long-term partnerships.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, association meetings, and networking events to promote services and expand market presence.
  • Assist in developing strategic partnerships with manufacturers, builders, developers, and industry stakeholders across North America
What it takes to be successful in this role:

Salary & Benefits Information

The potential salary range for this position is $80,000 to 100,000 per year. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. In addition to competitive compensation packages, Intertek employees are eligible for a variety of benefitsincluding paid time off, paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance,RRSP with company match, tuition reimbursement and more.
