Job summary

Englobe, a leading environmental and engineering firm, is seeking a Structural Engineer for our Edmonton/Calgary operations with focus on wood construction and building design. You will evaluate structures, perform calculations, and deliver documentation while coordinating with clients and teams.

The role offers a hybrid work setup, opportunities for growth, and exposure to Canadian building codes and diverse projects across environment and infrastructure sectors.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered with the Association of Professional Engineers at a provincial association (APEGA).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with wood construction projects and knowledge of Canadian building codes.

Responsibilities

  • Must perform structural site investigations/inspections/reviews and prepare technical reports and compliance letters.
  • Describe existing structural conditions and provide engineering solutions through assessments and studies.
  • Perform engineering calculations and design of structural elements (concrete, steel, wood, etc.).
  • Manage project deliverables including drawings and specifications, and monitor schedule and budget.
  • Interact with clients and contractors; review designs and mentor junior staff; review submittals and shop drawings.
  • Promote Englobe’s health and safety rules and participate in business development initiatives.

Your Main Responsibilities

Protostatix a division of Englobe is currently looking for Structural Engineers for their office in Edmonton. Would consider someone to work out of our Calgary office.

  • Must be proficent in wood construction projects;
  • Perform structural site investigations/inspections/reviews, gather data and prepare technical reports, site review/inspection reports and compliance letters;
  • Describe existing structural conditions and provide engineering solutions as required through Structural Condition Assessments and engineering studies;
  • Perform engineering calculations, analysis and design of structural elements including concrete, steel, masonry, wood, light‑gauge metal and precast using the latest and applicable building and design codes/standards;
  • Manage and/or generate deliverable documentation (i.e. drawings & specifications) for structural projects which requires accuracy in calculations and/or completeness of data;
  • Manage projects to ensure targets are met (schedule/budget);
  • Regularly interact with clients and contractors throughout the project duration;
  • Review engineering designs and drawings from junior team members and engineers-in-training and provide mentorship and feedback;
  • Review contractor’s submittals and shop drawings and, develop design solutions and modifications when warranted by site conditions;
  • Market our services to new / existing clients through business development initiatives;
  • Apply and promote Englobe’s health and safety rules.
What Makes You Unique
  • Registered with the Association of Professional Engineers at a provincial association (APEGA);
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering;
  • Must be experinced in Wood Construction Projects;
  • 5+ years of transferable experience in structural design of buildings and structural components/elements (new structures and/or renovations) post‑graduation;
  • Extensive knowledge and exposure of all relevant Canadian building codes, standards and regulatory requirements (CSA, ACI, NBCC, etc.);
  • Experience with project management and contract administration;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to produce well‑ written reports and technical specifications;
  • Experience with structural analysis/modelling computer software such as ETABS, SAFE, SFRAME, etc.;
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to complex concepts/projects, working independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently problem‑solve, tackle new assignments and multi‑task in a busy work environment with an emphasis on attention to detail;
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Alberta Canada (incl. remote areas).
