Job summary

City of Edmonton is seeking a Communications Director to oversee day-to-day communications for the Office of the Mayor. You will write, review and edit key messages, news releases, speeches, correspondence, social media content, proclamations and blogs on behalf of the Mayor.

You will assist with short and long term strategic planning and manage media relations, events, and the Mayor's schedule, aiming to protect the Mayor's political interests and vision.

Qualifications

• University degree in Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Affairs, Marketing, or Public Policy.
• Minimum 5 years direct work experience.
• Experience leading a communications team, including press secretary role.
• Experience in communications planning.
• Corporate communications experience.
• Experience in the public service.

Responsibilities

• Oversee content and production of the annual State of the City event.
• Review and approve proclamation requests, messages, letters of support and greetings.
• Coordinate media activities and manage Mayor's schedule.
• Protect the political interests, agenda, and vision of the Mayor.
