Job summary

Sunbelt Solomon seeks a seasoned Business Unit Controller to lead financial management for the engineering and field service unit. The role partners with FP&A, payroll, and leadership to guide decision making, ensure controls, and coordinate tax/audit activities.

You will manage multi-entity accounting, month-end close, and reporting for multiple sites. The incumbent will mentor accounting staff, drive process improvements, and maintain strong internal controls while communicating with Senior

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• CPA preferred
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
• Prior leadership in Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager/Controller roles preferred.
• Experience managing and developing accounting professionals.
• Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
• Experience with multi-entity and/or multi-location accounting preferred.
• Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis.
• Strong internal controls understanding.
• Experience with external auditors and financial statement audits.
• M&A or purchase accounting experience a plus.
• Excel and ERP/accounting systems proficiency.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to resolve accounting issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team while staying hands-on.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work onsite in a Monday-Friday office setting.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze consolidated financial statements for an international group of companies.
• Oversee timely preparation of working papers and journal entries for month-end close.
• Provide comprehensive financial information to FP&A and leadership, reporting variances.
• Collaborate with operations on project accounting, performance, and reporting.
• Assist with monthly forecasts and annual budgets using relevant assumptions.
• Support senior leaders in understanding business drivers and providing recommendations.
• Update on capital projects and evaluate progress as required.
• Ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations (WCB, IRS/CRA, taxes).
• Work with external auditors, providing documentation and clarifying controls.
