Job summary

ZoomerMedia Limited seeks an experienced digital reporter to join blogTO in Toronto. You’ll cover local news, lifestyle, and culture, delivering timely posts and engaging content across platforms.

You will craft stories, conduct interviews, and collaborate with editors to ensure accurate, compelling reporting that resonates with the city’s audiences. Prioritizing reliability and ethical journalism, you’ll contribute to growth and audience engagement.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in the use of Django or other CMS platforms.
• Understanding of social media and SEO and their importance to publishing.
• Skilled with photography, and photo editing is an asset.
• Ability to efficiently and effectively proofread and edit content.

Responsibilities

• Report on news and lifestyle stories for blogTO daily.
• Publish posts ranging from breaking news to local politics and events.
• Use analytics to pitch story ideas that will drive conversation in Toronto.
• Work with team on story producing and prioritize coverage/stories.
• Follow viral and emerging trends on media and social media.
• Conduct interviews and attend events as needed for content.
• Schedule weekend content for blogTO.
• Attend editorial meetings and pitch feasible story ideas.
• Keep up-to-date with news and events around the city and contribute to the culture conversation.
• Capture quality photos and vertical video clips for articles as needed.
• Monitor engagement and adjust work based on feedback from editors.

Who You Are

You are an experienced digital reporter and storyteller with a passion for local journalism. You have an expert knowledge of the Greater Toronto Area and an insatiable curiosity to discover what’s new and to report on people, places and stories not covered by other media. You’re comfortable reporting on a wide range of topics such as local news, lifestyle and culture that includes but is not exclusive to: breaking news, housing and real estate, events, food and restaurants, nightlife, shopping, local travel and outdoors and the history of the city.

What You’ll Do

• Report on news and lifestyle stories in an entertaining and timely manner every day, sometimes breaking at any moment
• Publish posts ranging from breaking news stories to local politics to development to more simple photo/video posts
• Use analytics to pitch story ideas that are compelling and will drive conversation in Toronto
• Work with team members on story producing and prioritize coverage/stories.
• Follow viral and emerging trends on media and social media
• Conduct necessary research required to produce content, which may include but is not limited to conducting interviews and attending events
• Work ahead to schedule weekend content for blogTO
• Attend editorial team meetings and pitch feasible story ideas.
• Keep up-to-date with news and events happening around the country and contribute to the conversation about culture in Toronto.
• Increase credibility of the company through quality, trustworthy, and ethical work.
• Capture quality photos and vertical video clips for accompanying articles, as needed.
• Monitor engagement of articles and accept feedback from the editorial team in order to make necessary improvements or adjustments to work.
• Other tasks, as required by your manager.
• experience with being on camera is an asset
• Experience managing multiple projects at once Is an asset
• Being able to identify exciting stories that can be presented in both a written and visual medium
• Experience with Instagram is an asset
