Okta is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Secures AI team to build the industry's first Identity Security Fabric for the agentic era. You will design and maintain robust backend services, applying AI‑native engineering and enforcing least privilege for every agent action.

The role requires deep distributed systems expertise and a strong background in Java‑level security and scalable architectures, with collaboration across Product and Design to deliver secure, scalable solutions for AI

Qualifications

• Proven experience defining scalable backend architectures and integrating complex APIs with modern web technologies.
• Solid understanding of web authentication and authorization fundamentals and securing sensitive user data.
• Architectural expertise with durable, enterprise‑grade software design in Java or equivalent.
• Experience leading engineers through AI adoption or tooling shifts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Shape the technical strategy for the Identity Security Fabric with leadership alignment.
• Build and maintain the Runtime Policy Decision Point and agent gateway components.
• Design policy engine integration and connect admin UI outputs to APIs.
• Validate delegated agents' permissions and forward user identity securely.
• Track token exchanges and identity specifications across MCP, OAuth, and agent workflows.
• Develop comprehensive secure audit logging for all requests and decisions.
