Job summary

Affirm is seeking a seasoned Staff Engineer to drive our Continuous Integration team. You will own the design, scalability, and reliability of build pipelines, test coverage, and deployment workflows across multiple services, enabling engineers to ship high‑quality software quickly and confidently.

You will mentor other CI engineers, partner with engineering leadership to align CI systems with product goals, and evangelize CI/CD best practices across the organization, while thriving in our

Qualifications

• Proven experience driving and leading engineering efforts in CI, build systems, or developer productivity.
• Strong background in modern build systems: GitHub, Buildkite, Artifactory.
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (AWS, Kubernetes) and IaC practices.
• Solid programming background (Python, Kotlin, Java) and ability to guide technical decisions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills balancing long-term vision with short-term impact.
• This role accepts equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Proficiency with managing build systems and monorepo frameworks.
• Active contributor to open source or experience at a large tech company is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, scalability, and reliability of build and pipelines across services and platforms.
• Optimize build times, test coverage, and reporting for fast feedback to developers.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response for CI systems.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure smooth integrations and deployment workflows.
• Identify developer pain points and drive tooling’ and automation improvements.
• Evangelize CI/CD practices to raise engineering efficiency standards.
• Contribute to and drive the vision for CI and developer productivity infrastructure.
• Lead and mentor other CI engineers, fostering ownership and technical excellence.
• Align CI systems with broader product and platform goals with engineering leadership.
