Varicent Software in Calgary, AB is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design and scale large-scale, data‑intensive backend systems. You’ll work with massive datasets, distributed pipelines, and cloud-native architectures to power our services and data platforms.

You will design REST APIs, optimize performance, and mentor engineers while partnering with cross-functional teams. Proficiency in Python, Typescript, C#, and AWS is required, with 6+ years in backend roles and 3+ years in

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend or full-stack experience with a strong backend focus.
• 3+ years with Typescript, Node.js or C#.
• Advanced AWS experience (EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, Step Functions, etc.).
• Experience with large datasets, distributed computing and batch/stream processing (Spark, Kafka, EMR, Glue).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale features for REST APIs and large-scale data processing pipelines across distributed systems.
• Architect and optimize backend services for high throughput and low latency performance.
• Develop data-intensive and event-driven applications using Python, Typescript, C#, and AWS-native services.
• Mentor developers, guide code reviews, and raise engineering quality standards.
