Job summary

Varicent in Canada is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design and scale large‑scale, data‑intensive systems, including REST APIs and distributed data pipelines. You will own backend services, data platforms, and cloud‑native architectures across the stack.

The role requires 6+ years in backend or full‑stack work with strong AWS experience and data processing tech like Spark, Kafka, and Dask. You will collaborate with engineers, architects, DevOps, and QA to deliver reliable, high‑performance

Qualifications

  • 6+ years backend or full‑stack engineering experience with a strong backend focus
  • 3+ years working with Typescript / Node.js / C#
  • Advanced experience with AWS (EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, Step Functions, etc.)
  • Proven experience working with large datasets, distributed computing, and batch or stream processing using Spark, Dask, EMR, Glue, Kafka, etc.
  • Solid understanding of system design, distributed systems, scalability patterns, and cloud architecture

Job description

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer with deep experience designing and scaling large‑scale, data‑intensive systems. This role requires hands‑on expertise working with massive datasets, distributed data pipelines, and high-throughput backend architectures. You will play a key role in driving our backend services, data platforms, and cloud‑native systems forward.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and scale new features for REST APIs and large‑scale data processing pipelines that handle high‑volume datasets across distributed systems.

Technical Expertise

  • Ability to collaborate, document solutions clearly, and participate in technical discussions with stakeholders.

For this role, the estimated annual base salary range is between $121,000 - $159,000 (CAD). In addition to base salary, our compensation package may include bonuses, commissions for eligible sales roles, and a comprehensive benefits package. The actual base salary will vary based on factors including individual qualifications and market data, as objectively assessed during the interview process.
