Job summary

Varicent in Toronto, Canada is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design and scale large-scale data-driven systems. You will build features for REST APIs and data pipelines that handle high-volume datasets across distributed systems.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, architects, DevOps, and QA, mentor developers, and help raise engineering quality standards while leveraging Python, TypeScript, C#, and AWS services.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience.
• 3+ years working with Typescript, Node.js, or C#.
• Advanced experience with AWS (EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, Step Functions, etc.).
• Experience with large datasets, distributed computing, and batch/stream processing using Spark, Dask, EMR, Glue, Kafka, etc.
• Strong understanding of system design, distributed systems, and cloud architecture.
• Ability to collaborate and document solutions clearly for stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale REST APIs and large-scale data processing pipelines.
• Architect and optimize backend services for high throughput and low latency.
• Develop data-intensive and event-driven applications using Python, TypeScript, C#, and AWS-native services.
• Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability across microservices and cloud infra.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, architects, DevOps, and QA through the full development lifecycle.
• Mentor developers, guide code reviews, and raise engineering quality standards.
