Job summary

Affirm is hiring a Staff Cost Engineer to lead cost governance across a multi-cloud and multi-AI-vendor footprint. You’ll design tooling and automation to answer “why spend spike” questions and scale cost visibility for the business.

The role sits in a remote Canada context, with focus on establishing scalable, self-service cost-management capabilities and influencing cost strategy with infra and platform leaders.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes in production.
• Experience with a FinOps or cost-visibility platform and building dashboards.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team and align with business priorities.
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainable solutions.
• Own operations, monitoring, playbooks, and on-call readiness for reliability.
