Job summary

Affirm is a remote-first fintech that seeks a Staff Cost Engineer to design tooling and processes that scale cost governance across a multi-cloud and multi-AI-vendor footprint. You will set technical direction for the team and influence cost strategy with infra and platform leaders.

In this role, you will turn ambiguous spend questions into durable, self-service tooling, partnering with product, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and clear ROI.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience with FinOps or cost-visibility platforms and building dashboards or savings reporting.
• Proven ability to build automation and tooling (Python, Terraform) to scale cost-review processes.
• Hands-on cloud billing/cost data experience and SQL for spend modeling and cost allocation.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a yearly horizon and align with business projects.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and cost awareness.
• Advocate for technical solutions and operational processes to scale impact.
• Own team operations, monitoring, playbooks and on-call readiness.
• Mentor and develop talent, emphasizing quality and ownership.
