Job summary

ICBC’s North Vancouver office seeks a Senior Strategic Planning Advisor to shape and enable the delivery of corporate strategies. You will translate strategic objectives into actionable plans, partner with senior leaders, and drive high-impact initiatives in a complex environment.

The role requires initiative, strategic thinking, and strong presentation skills to influence decision-making and governance across business units. Hybrid work and a focus on BC operations are offered.

Senior Strategic Planning Advisor

ICBC’s Office of Strategy Management has an exciting opportunity for a strategic thinker to join our team as a Senior Strategic Planning Advisor. This internal consulting role is ideal for a professional with initiative, vision, and curiosity - someone who thrives in complex environments and brings diverse experience in strategy, consulting, and business transformation.

As a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will play a key role in shaping and enabling the successful development and delivery of corporate and business strategies. You will help translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and performance metrics, while continuously refining planning processes and supporting the execution of high-impact initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Support the development of corporate-level plans, reports, and special projects.
• Provide strategic input into business decisions, using a structured, data-driven approach to build consensus and alignment.
• Lead the development and activation of complex business strategies and transformation initiatives aligned with ICBC’s corporate strategy.
• Monitor and report on strategy execution and performance, including developing governance structures, performance measures and identifying issues to ensure outcomes and benefits are achieved.
• Act as a trusted internal consultant, providing structured problem-solving, strategic advice and decision support to senior leaders on complex business issues.
• Lead strategic analysis, environmental scanning and assessment of emerging trends to identify implications for ICBC's business and strategic priorities.
• Determine feasibility of new initiatives and lead the preparation of project proposals aligned with corporate priorities.
• Collaborate across business areas and corporate functions including planning, risk, performance reporting, and portfolio management to facilitate the successful execution of strategic priorities, plans and initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with executive leadership and senior management to foster strategic alignment and support.

This role operates in an environment with a high degree of complexity that will require a comprehensive understanding of our business, organization, and operating environment. It also at times entails operating within a high degree of ambiguity, requiring initiative to seek and drive clarity through excellent facilitation techniques, flexibility, thought leadership, and complex problem solving capabilities.

Position requirements:

• Experience working in a corporate strategy role in a dynamic business environment, with exposure to strategy management and executive strategy formulation and decision making.
• Excellent facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities, with experience leading executive workshops, governance forums and strategic discussions to build consensus, navigate competing priorities and achieve desired outcomes.
• Executive-level communication and influence with exceptional oral, written, and graphic (PowerPoint) communication skills and the ability to distill complex information into a compelling story.
• Strong relationship building skills across all levels of the organization and other shared services, with an ability to work comfortably in a group/collaborative setting.
• Results driven and proactive, with a demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, tight deadlines, and constraints, while adapting to meet the ever-changing needs of the organization.
• Demonstrated knowledge of management consulting and strategic planning methodologies, frameworks, techniques and tools.
• Curious and adaptable, with the ability to leverage emerging technologies, tools, and ways of working to enhance strategic insight, productivity and decision-making.
• Knowledge of emerging developments in insurance and other industry sectors is an asset.

The ideal candidate will hold either an undergraduate degree, a professional designation, an MBA and/or professional experience as a consultant.
