Job summary

Interior Health in Kamloops, BC, is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Royal Inland Hospital laboratory. You will perform a variety of duties including collecting blood and specimens, preparing samples for analysis, and entering data into the Laboratory Information System in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.

This is a Permanent Part Time (0.79) opportunity with rotating day, evening and night shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience in medical laboratory settings is preferred.
• Ability to perform clerical tasks and data entry with accuracy.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights).

Responsibilities

• Take blood and specimen samples from patients.
• Prepare specimens for analysis and process them for LIS entry.
• Operate laboratory equipment and distribute specimens to relevant departments.
• Perform related clerical duties as required.

About the Job

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) Laboratory strives to provide safe, convenient, respectful and accessible laboratory services to our patients. Programs and services include chemistry, hematology, microbiology, histopathology, cytology, and transfusion medicine. RIH is a tertiary hospital and a 24/7 operation with state of the art equipment, acting as a regional referral site.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform a variety of duties such as taking blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, distributing specimens to departments and outside Labs, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties as required.

This is a Permanent Part Time (0.79) opportunity.

Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days, evenings and nights.
