Job description

At McMan Calgary & Area, connection is at our core. Every year, we make a meaningful difference in the lives of more than 5,000 children, youth, adults, and families by providing programs and services that support those with complex needs—including mental health challenges, addictions, homelessness, poverty, and disabilities. We believe in everyone's deep and infinite worth, and no matter who you are, we will walk alongside you.

Through our work, we rebuild, integrate, and strengthen connections—to self, peers, families, communities, support professionals, and the land—because people need people. Our sense of well‑being, identity, and belonging comes from relationships, and healing happens through these connections. Professional supports are there for a season or a reason—not a lifetime—because our goal is to empower individuals and families to thrive independently.

For 35 years, McMan Calgary has been providing foster care services in Calgary and surrounding communities. Our foster care program offers safe, caring, out‑of‑home placement in a family environment for children and youth that are unable to live at home. Foster care services are designed to provide temporary, stable, trauma‑informed and culturally responsive care for babies, children and youth. The primary goal of foster care is for children to return to their family of origin, kin or community.

Do you see yourself as patient, empathetic and resilient?

Do you have the ability to adapt to diverse needs?

Can you communicate effectively and professionally with other team members?

If these statements describe you, then fostering may be a suitable fit!

What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for compassionate caregivers that believe in the importance of natural connections in a child/youth’s life. Foster caregivers are expected to be actively engaged with the biological family/family of origin and the siblings of children and youth in their care. If you are ready to provide love, stability, and care for vulnerable babies, children and youth, we encourage you to become part of our thriving program.

McMan Calgary is seeking Foster Parents in the following locations: Calgary, Airdrie, Banff, Canmore, Strathmore, Chestermere, Langdon, Okotoks, High River and Claresholm.

Foster Parent Responsibilities:
  • Provide for the emotional, social, educational, and physical needs of the child(ren) in your care
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals to create and implement a care plan that supports each child’s goals and development
  • Facilitate and support family connections when appropriate, as directed by the case team
  • Participate fully in the reunification process
  • Commit to ongoing learning and professional development, including attending training to ensure you are equipped to provide trauma‑informed care
  • Maintain documentation and reporting in accordance with McMan Calgary’s policies and guidelines
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Applicants must be 18 years and older, have Canadian citizenship or have permanent residency status in Canada.
  • Applicants must own or rent their own home.
  • Applicants must own a reliable and insured vehicle and be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
  • You are able to provide a clear Child Intervention Check.
  • You are able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • In alignment with the Government of Alberta’s requirements, prospective foster parents must meet specific criteria. Each application is considered carefully to ensure the best fit.
  • We’re here to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have!
To begin, applicants will:
  • Submit an application to foster with McMan Calgary
  • Complete required background checks for all adults living in the home
  • Complete PRIDE pre‑service training modules online
  • Complete an approved SAFE Home Study
  • Once approved, complete a licensing package and home inspection
What We Offer:

We are committed to supporting you throughout your journey as a foster parent. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Dedicated Foster Care worker assigned to your family
  • Monthly and as‑needed meetings for ongoing support
  • Access to a 24‑hour on‑call system for assistance
  • Advocacy and connection with other foster parents
  • Comprehensive training to enhance your skills in trauma‑informed care
  • Tax‑free per diem to help cover the child’s basic needs ranging from $43-56 per night/per child
Why Choose McMan?

We prioritize building strong, supportive partnerships with our foster parents, recognizing them as essential members of the team. Our experienced team members take a collaborative and individualized approach, ensuring that each family’s unique needs are met with respect and flexibility. We advocate for our families, providing long‑term support and solutions that reflect the whole family dynamic.
