Job summary

Rimrock Banff is seeking a hands-on Sous Chef to drive culinary execution and lead a high-performing kitchen team in a luxury resort setting. You will oversee daily operations, ensure impeccable plate presentations, and guide staff through service with clear communication and discipline.

In this role you will manage scheduling, inventories, and cost controls while maintaining Rimrock’s standards for quality, safety, and guest experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef in a high-volume, upscale, or luxury environment.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire.
  • Solid understanding of kitchen financials, including food cost, labour, and inventory management.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep knowledge of culinary techniques, trends, and best practices.
  • FoodSafe certification (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Support the Chef de Cuisine in overseeing daily kitchen operations across all service periods.
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards of quality, consistency, and precision.
  • Lead during service as required, maintaining pace, structure, and clear communication across the kitchen.
  • Support menu execution, recipe adherence, and continuous refinement of dishes.
  • Supervise, train, and support cooks of all levels, fostering a disciplined and high-performing team environment.
  • Provide clear, direct coaching and feedback to support skill development and consistency.
  • Lead by example through professionalism, strong work ethic, and attention to detail in both prep and service.
  • Assist with scheduling, labour management, and productivity to meet operational needs.
  • Support ordering, inventory control, and product handling to minimize waste and maintain cost targets.
  • Ensure mise en place is precise, organized, and fully prepared for each service period.
  • Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards, maintaining a clean and compliant kitchen.
  • Monitor food quality, portioning, and presentation to ensure consistency across all dishes.
  • Conduct ongoing checks throughout service to uphold Rimrock’s culinary standards.
  • Work closely with front-of-house teams to ensure seamless and elevated guest experiences.
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.

As Sous Chef, you are a key leader in the kitchen, supporting the Chef de Cuisine in the day-to-day operation of your venue while ensuring excellence in execution, team performance, and consistency. Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: $67,000 to $70,000, dependent on experience

What You'll Be Doing
Culinary Execution & Support
  • Support the Chef de Cuisine in overseeing daily kitchen operations across all service periods.
