JOB DESCRIPTION

Irving Shipbuilding is one of the most modern shipyards in North America, known for its pace and willingness to innovate. The company is constructing over 20 Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships and River-Class Destroyers, making it the largest and most complex shipbuilding project in Canadian history. As a Solution Architect, you will work closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and technology specialists to identify business challenges, develop solutions, and create designs that add value and meet business needs. Effective collaboration, thought leadership, and broad IT experience are essential for success in this role. This role requires full-time on-site presence.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Guide on the effective use of solutions and architectures to achieve business outcomes aligned with requirements.
  • Provide solution architecture design and recommendations to project teams.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to understand goals and support delivery.
  • Coordinate with other Architects for successful project delivery.
  • Design, specify, and select information system solutions considering functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure, and performance.
  • Ensure alignment with overall Application, Information, and Technology principles.
  • Maintain the Enterprise Architecture repository, updating impacted components, relationships, and attributes.
  • Leverage emerging technologies to drive organizational change and support business processes.
  • Support software architecture design and assist development teams in solution development.
  • Estimate costs and prepare business cases considering infrastructure, licenses, development, and support.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary education in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar role, with at least 10 years in a professional IT environment.
  • Experience providing technical direction.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft technologies and Cloud solutions.
  • Knowledge of architecting commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions.
  • Deep understanding of web application architecture, trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Curious, focused, driven, with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • TOGAF Certification.
