Job summary

Lumentum Canada is seeking a Software Verification Engineer co-op/intern to join the R&D Software Design Verification team in Ottawa, Ontario. This 4, 8, or 12-month term offers hands-on experience with automated solutions for optical switches and cross-disciplinary collaboration across Optical, Hardware, Software, and Firmware teams.

• Pursuing a degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
• Strong object-oriented software design and implementation in any language.
• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the ongoing development of automated solutions for next generation optical switches.
• Collect and analyze test data to improve product performance and quality.
• Solve complex technical problems and work with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with Optical, Hardware, Software, Firmware, Design Authority and Project Management R&D teams.
• Analyze and characterize device failures and improve product robustness.

The Opportunity...

• 4-month term: January 2027 to April 2027
• 8-month term (preferred): January 2027 to August 2027
• 12-month term: January 2027 to December 2027
• Pay Range: $24-35/hr

• Collecting and analyzing test data to improve product performance and quality.

• Working in close collaboration with the Optical, Hardware, Software, Firmware, Design Authority, and Project Management R&D teams.
• Analyzing and characterizing device failures; and,
• Improving the quality and robustness of our products.

What We’re Looking For

• A craving to succeed and to do things right the first time.
• Strong object-oriented software design and implementation (any language).
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education

• 2+ years towards a degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Candidates must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.

The Following Qualifications Are An Asset

• Experience with C#, Python, bash scripting, and Linux.
• Experience in instrumentation and test automation, including interaction with devices under test and test equipment
• Understanding of optical systems
