Job summary

Lumentum Canada is hiring an experienced Senior Software Automation Engineer in Ottawa to advance optical test and verification strategies, transitioning breakthroughs from design to production. You will drive automation, data analysis and AI-assisted testing in a fast-growing photonics environment.

The role requires an engineering graduate with 3+ years in optical component development, strong programming and test automation skills, and collaboration with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.

Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience on product development of optical components, photonics, or telecom systems.
  • Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced test automation.
  • Proficiency in Software Development.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer with impact: Design and implement advanced optical test and verification strategies to transition products from design to production.
  • Characterize key optical parameters to optimize real-world performance.
  • Dive into advanced data analysis to extract insights and improve designs.
  • Collaborate on integrating AI tools into test and characterization workflows.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a key contributor to our Design Verification & Characterization Team , you’ll play an essential role in bringing revolutionary optical products to life. Specifically, you’ll:

  • Engineer with impact: Design and implement advanced optical test and verification strategies to transition breakthrough products from the design phase to full-scale production.
  • Characterize cutting-edge optics: Conduct in-depth characterization of key optical parameters, using advanced techniques to ensure our products are optimized for real-world performance.
  • Dive into advanced analysis: Utilize sophisticated data analysis methods to extract insights, solve challenges, and improve optical designs.
  • Innovate with AI: Collaborate on integrating AI tools into test and characterization workflows to unlock new levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate for success: Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to align product requirements.
  • Deliver excellence: Create scalable, well-documented test solutions and validate products using Agile methodologies.

What We’re Looking For

Education:

  • A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience on product development of optical components, photonics, or telecom systems

Required Skills:

  • Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced test automation
  • Proficiency in Software Development
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience in the design and/or testing of optical components and subsystems for optical communications.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and optical test and measurement equipment
  • Expertise in test automation, including interaction with devices under test and test equipment.
  • Experience in any one (or more) of the following: Python, Flutter, Dart, VB.NET, C#
  • Experience leveraging packages and frameworks in a software development context
  • Familiarity with Agile software development tools, version control systems (e.g., Git)

Salary Range: $71,450 - $102,100 CAD (flexible).

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. In line with our commitment to being a great place to work, Lumentum offers competitive total rewards which may include annual bonus, equity, and comprehensive health and welfare benefits.
