Job summary

Lumentum Canada is seeking an experienced Senior Optical Characterization and Test Engineer to join our Ottawa team on-site. You will design and execute advanced optical test strategies, characterize critical parameters, and drive data-driven improvements across R&D and manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in product development of optical components, photonics, or telecom systems.
• Proficiency in Python and hands‑on test automation experience.
• Experience with optical test & measurement equipment and Agile tools.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement advanced optical test and verification strategies for production readiness.
• Characterize optical parameters using advanced measurement techniques.
• Apply data analysis to derive insights and improve optical designs.
• Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing and Quality to align product requirements.
• Develop scalable test solutions and document results; support Agile workflows.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing in the team.
• Explore AI-assisted testing workflows to enhance efficiency.

• Innovate with AI: Collaborate on integrating AI tools into test and characterization workflows to unlock new levels of efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate for success: Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to align product requirements.

What We’re Looking For

Education

A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.

Experience

3+ years of relevant experience on product development of optical components, photonics, or telecom systems

Required Skills

• Strong analytical, communication skills, and problem‑solving skills
• Proficiency in Software Development
• Experience in the design and/or testing of optical components and subsystems for optical communications.
• Hands‑on experience with electrical and optical test and measurement equipment
• Expertise in test automation, including interaction with devices under test and test equipment.
• Experience in any one (or more) of the following: Python, Flutter, Dart, VB.NET, C#
• Experience leveraging packages and frameworks in a software development context
• Familiarity with Agile software development tools, version control systems (e.g., Git)

Salary

Salary Range: $93,400 - $133,400 CAD (flexible). Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. In line with our commitment to being a great place to work, Lumentum offers competitive total rewards which may include annual bonus, equity, and comprehensive health and welfare benefits.
