Job summary

Amazon's Fulfillment Optimization team in Vancouver is seeking a Software Development Manager to build and lead a high-performance software group delivering highly scalable, low-latency distributed services.

You will partner with business teams to define technical roadmaps, mentor engineers, and drive architecture across SOA and microservices while ensuring reliability and on-call readiness. Based in Vancouver, this role shapes the software roadmap and engineering culture.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years working directly within engineering teams.
• 3+ years designing or architecting large-scale systems.
• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Knowledge of the full software/hardware/networks life cycle, including standards, reviews, build, testing, and operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of software engineers, setting technical direction and high engineering standards.
• Mentor and develop engineers through career growth and technical advancement.
• Manage team resources, hiring, and organizational planning.
• Lead the design and architecture of large-scale, highly distributed, real-time systems core to Amazon's supply chain.
• Enforce guidelines and best practices across the full software development lifecycle.
• Partner with product, program management, and other engineering teams to define and execute roadmaps.
• Collaborate with leaders, researchers, and data engineers to design optimization solutions.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and maintain docs.
• Participate in on-call rotation as part of standard engineering responsibilities.
• Operate in an agile environment prioritizing high-impact work with reliability.
