Job summary

A leading company in rail transportation is seeking a Software Analyst in Toronto, Ontario. This role involves contributing to the development and testing of operationally critical software systems. Candidates should be recent graduates with a University degree in Computer Sciences or Engineering, bringing strong foundational knowledge in C/C++, along with analytical skills. The position offers exposure to both software engineering and the respective processes, in a hybrid working environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed Graduation and possess relevant working experience.
  • Able to handle assignments within small to medium scale software applications.
  • Practical experience in using programs in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Modifies and extends designs, codes, debugs, and tests software.
  • Produces integration tests on simulated or target hardware test benches.
  • Identifies root cause and implements corrections for software defects.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

As a Software Analyst, your primary responsibilities will be to transfer your academic experience to the railway signaling domain by contributing to the development and testing of components of operationally or safety-critical software systems. You work under the supervision of a Senior Software Analyst or a Technical Specialist to develop your expertise in both software engineering and the engineering processes that govern activities. You will analyze, develop and integrate changes to software applications, adhering to the existing design patterns and development process for safety critical software development.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Modifies and extends existing designs, codes, debugs, writes test procedures and tests software code.
  • Produces, under supervision, detailed impact analyses of changes to multiple software components.
  • Reviews code, test procedures and test results.
  • Produces and executes integration tests on simulated or target hardware test benches.
  • Identifies the root cause and implements corrections for software defects.
  • Proactively understands the planning constraints of assignments, plans and executes accordingly.
  • Is curious to learn and propose improvement

Key Requirement:

  • Must have completed Graduation and possess any relevant working experience; Relevant Academic Projects will also be considered.
  • University degree in Computer sciences, Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Entry level analysis skills, able to diagnose issues based on application logs and correlate events to failures
  • Able to handle assignments within a small to medium scale software application
  • Knowledgeable of software development lifecycles, including Waterfall and Agile Methodologies
  • Able to quickly integrate with the team and work independently
  • Practical experience in using typical programs which are part of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Practical experience with source control and IDEs or code editors
  • Demonstrated experience in producing working applications using one of the below:
    • C
    • C++ using STL, Boost
  • Theoretical knowledge of object-oriented techniques, multithreading, socket programming.
  • AUTOSR MISRA C++ standards, OOPS concepts
  • Basic understanding of Graph theory.
  • Exposure to scripting and Python

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to produce structured engineering analyses.
  • Basic understanding of control theory (PID, PD, Fuzzy Logic, Adaptive controllers etc.)
  • Able to program on multiple operating systems (i.e. Windows, Linux, etc
