Job summary

Canada West Ski Areas Association in the Yukon is seeking three snowmaking supervisory positions for day, evening, and night shifts. You will lead a small team of 3-4 snowmakers on the mountain, oversee equipment setup, monitor pumps and guns, and coordinate with the Operations Manager on the snowmaking plan.

Expect to have snowmaking experience, first aid ticket, ability to lift 50 lbs, and a valid driver’s license.

Position Status:

We are looking to fill 3 supervisory positions —day shift (8am-4pm), evening shift (4pm-10pm), and night shift (10pm-8am).

As part of the snowmaking supervisory team, you will be an integral part of a successful season. Working in a team environment, you will be on the mountain leading your team of 3-4 snowmakers by attending to snowmaking equipment, including high pressure hoses and pumps. You will also work closely with other shift supervisors by handing off important information at the start and end of your shift as well as communicating with the Operations Manager on the snowmaking plan.

Major Functions:

• Oversee your snowmaking shift team.
• Provide the best example of proper snowmaking techniques and skills; leading by example!
• Assure safe practices are followed for all snowmaking procedures.
• Follow direction and snowmaking plan as dictated by Operations Manager.
• Setting up of snow guns and equipment.
• Monitoring of pump house and valve house during start up and shut down of snowmaking system.
• Perform checks and asses snow quality from guns on minimum hourly bases.
• Uphold a high standard of communication, consideration for coworkers, equipment, and product quality.
• Works well with others in a team environment.
• Able to work independently on a task and see it through to completion.
• Understands that weather plays a major part in snowmaking production and monitoring for changing weather patterns.

Requirements(or able to attain):

• Previous snowmaking experience.
• Snowcat operation experience not required but preferred.
• First aid ticket required.
• Must be able to lift and drag snowmaking equipment, guns and hoses and shovel snow as needed; upwards of 50lbs.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Winter clothing and gear for work is required.
• Steel toe insulated rubber boots are required.
• On-site lunch is required.
• Be prepared for all weather conditions.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Able to make informed decisions on the go.

This position to start mid-October until December or until operational needs are met.
