Job summary

Paladin Security invites applicants to join the Saint Mary's University campus security team. The Security Officer will patrol the SMU site, respond to incidents and emergencies, and conduct investigations leading to detailed incident reports.

Responsibilities include door control, enforcing campus policies, and assisting the university community. Required are a High School Diploma, Nova Scotia security license, and First Aid/CPR Level C certification.

Qualifications

• Must have strong verbal and written English communication.
• Must be able to obtain Nova Scotia Security License.
• Must hold Intermediate First Aid/CPR - Level C.
• Experience in security, law enforcement, or related field preferred.
• Certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and MOAB; training available if missing.

Responsibilities

• Patrol SMU buildings, facilities and exterior grounds.
• Respond to incidents and emergency situations.
• Conduct investigations (thefts, break-ins, suspicious persons, accidents, vandalism) and complete incident reports.
• Lock/unlock doors and monitor for unsecured doors.
• Enforce Smoke-Free Campus and Tobacco Use Policy; document non-compliance.

4-day on 4-day off (4 days-4 off-4 nights)- 0800-2000Hrs, 2000-0800Hrs

Payrate

$17.71

Key Responsibilities

• Patrol the building, facilities and exterior grounds
• Respond to incidents and play an active role in all emergency situations
• Conduct investigations re: thefts, break and enter, suspicious persons, accidents, vandalism, etc and complete incident reports, occurrence logs or appropriate documentation
• Complete door locks/unlocks as required; monitor for unsecure doors
• Enforce applicable Smoke-Free Campus and Tobacco Use Policy and document all non-compliance.
• Provide assistance, as necessary, to University community members'
• Assist in orientation and training of new security personnel, as required.
• Provide First Aid response.
• Monitor surveillance cameras, as required.
• Other related duties and assignments, as delegated by the University Security Manager.
• Parking Duties may be required.

Prerequisites

• Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia
• Must currently hold a valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
