Job summary

Magna International is expanding its Mechatronics, Mirrors & Lighting group in Newmarket, Ontario. The role focuses on creating and refining SMT programs, validating changes, and ensuring traceability across NPI and production transfers.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to optimize lines and reduce defects. Required is a Diploma/Certificate in Electronics or Mechatronics, 1–3 years of related experience, and training in IPC 610, AOI, and Oven

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electronics, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • 1 to less than 3 years of work related experience.
  • Must be trained in IPC 610, AOI, and Oven Profiling.
  • Able to read values and correct polarity of Surface Mount components.

Responsibilities

  • Create, optimize, validate and maintain SMT machine programs, recipes, libraries and revision-controlled backups for NPI, engineering changes and production transfers.
  • Perform BOM, CAD/centroid, package, polarity, rotation, feeder, nozzle and machine-library verification before program release; complete first-off/first-article validation with the cross-functional team.
  • Set up, adjust and support solder paste printers, pick-and-place equipment, conveyors, reflow ovens, AOI, SPI, laser markers and associated traceability systems.
  • Maintain revision history, parameter-change records, controlled backups, setup sheets and other manufacturing documentation; ensure unauthorized program changes are prevented.
  • Troubleshoot line stops, defects, false calls, escapes, cycle-time constraints and equipment issues using structured problem-solving and data from SPI, AOI, machine logs and quality systems.

ensure unauthorized program changes are prevented.Troubleshoot line stops, defects, false calls, escapes, cycle-time constraints and equipment issues using structured problem-solving and data from SPI, AOI, machine logs and quality systems.Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, Maintenance and suppliers to implement containment, root-cause correction, mistake-proofing and continuous-improvement actions.Support preventive maintenance, calibration/verification activities and daily equipment readiness checks in accordance with manufacturer and site requirements.Train operators and technicians on program selection, changeover verification, defect review, reaction plans, ESD controls and standard work.AOI PROGRAMMING & SUPPORTCreate and debug AOI programs from CAD/BOM and approved reference assemblies.Define inspection coverage for presence/absence, polarity, orientation, OCR/OCV, placement and solder-joint conditions.Optimize lighting, algorithms, libraries and thresholds; manage golden/reference data and revision controlMonitor false-call rate, defect escapes, repeat defects and inspection coverage; perform offline review and controlled program changes.SPI / PRINT PROCESSCreate and optimize SPI programs for paste area, height, volume, offset and bridging.Establish product-appropriate limits and review measurement trends without masking real defects.Support printer setup: stencil, squeegee, pressure, speed, separation, underside cleaning and paste condition.Use SPI data to drive printer correction and closed-loop improvement where installed; document reaction limits and escalation.REFLOW OVEN PROFILINGDevelop and verify product-specific thermal profiles using a calibrated profiler and representative thermocouple locations.Evaluate ramp rate, soak, time above liquidus, peak temperature, cooling rate and assembly ΔT against solder paste, component and customer limits.Create, approve and maintain oven recipes; verify conveyor speed, zone settings and nitrogen settings where applicable.Perform periodic oven performance verification, re-profile after defined changes, and retain profile evidence and recipe revisions.Maintain component, package, feeder and nozzle libraries; update pick-and-place programs and optimize placement sequence, head utilization and cycle time without compromising process controls.Support solder paste storage verification, thaw/use-life controls and required sign-off; follow approved material handling and traceability processes.Support first article/first-off approval activities, process capability studies, defect pareto analysis and corrective actions as part of the cross-functional team.Support Nexim or successor manufacturing systems, barcode/serialization, route validation and production data integrity.Investigate and correct SMT quality issues and perform other related duties as required.QUALITY, SAFETY & COMPLIANCEApply the current company- and customer-approved revisions of IPC-A-610 acceptance criteria and J-STD-001 soldered assembly requirements, as applicable to the product class and work scope.Apply IPC-7530 guidance for product thermal profiling and IPC-7801 requirements/guidance for reflow oven process control and periodic verification, as adopted by the site.Follow customer-specific requirements, control plans, PFMEA, work instructions, reaction plans, quality alerts and applicable automotive quality-system requirements.Follow ESD-safe handling requirements, moisture-sensitive-device controls, chemical/SDS requirements, lockout/tagout, machine guarding and all established safe work practices.Escalate any suspected safety risk, wrong program/revision, loss of traceability, out-of-control condition or potential quality escape; stop the process when required by site procedure.Uphold Magna Production System principles, standardization, one-piece flow, 5S and continuous improvement.Qualifications and Skills:Diploma or Certificate in Electronics, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
