Job summary

BEST - For a Cleaner World is hiring for a supervisory custodial role at our Toronto location. You will oversee daily duties of custodians, train new hires, and ensure safety and quality standards while maintaining team morale.

The position requires strong communication, knowledge of OHS and WHMIS, and proficiency with MS Office. Responsibilities include coordinating staff, managing supplies, and performing cleaning duties with an emphasis on safety and service excellence.

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Knowledge of WHMIS and standard cleaning products is an asset.
• Basic computer and smartphone knowledge with MS Office familiarity.
• Ability to analyze, plan, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily duties of light and heavy-duty custodians.
• Train new hires and promote BEST’s culture, mission and values.
• Communicate with Shift Managers about staffing, safety, and supplies.
• Lead staff meetings to implement policies and safety requirements.
• Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment securing staff and public safety.
• Perform cleaning duties including floor maintenance and minor repairs.

JOB OVERVIEW

You will be responsible for ensuring your building looks clean, presentable, and inviting. Some of the duties and responsibilities include overseeing daily duties of custodians, ensuring quality standards are met in all areas, facilitating staff meetings to implement safety policies, procedures and requirements, along with news, communications from Head Office and maintaining team morale.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee daily duties of both light and heavy-duty custodians
• Train new hires and foster BEST’s company culture, mission, and values
• Maintain open communication with Shift Managers and Operational Leadership regarding staffing issues, safety, supplies, and other related business concerns
• Facilitate staff meetings as required to implement policies, procedures, and safety requirements
• Maintain and secure storage areas and cleaning equipment/supplies ensuring the safety of staff and the public
• Perform light and heavy-duty cleaning responsibilities including floor maintenance
• Perform minor equipment repairs and report vandalism
• Report equipment repairs and stock shortages
• Other duties as required per business needs

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Good understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Knowledge of WHIMIS and standard cleaning products, chemicals, and procedures, is an asset
• Basic computer and smartphone knowledge with experience using MS Office programs
• Ability to effectively analyze, plan, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines

REQUIREMENTS

• Previous supervisory experience considered an asset;
• Ability to pass Canadian Background Check
