Position Overview: The Site Supervisor/Equipment Operator plays a critical role in ensuring efficient daily operations by coordinating drivers, managing schedules, and overseeing job dispatching. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills to effectively assign routes, monitor driver performance, and resolve on-site challenges. Experience in operating heavy equipment, logistics, and handling walking floor/long haul drivers is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign drivers to routes based on job requirements, availability, and efficiency.
- Schedule and coordinate driver shifts to ensure full route coverage.
- Monitor and adjust schedules to accommodate last-minute changes or delays.
- Ensure compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Receive and respond to customer service requests.
- Dispatch trucks to job sites and monitor job progress.
- Provide drivers with route details, job instructions, and safety guidelines.
- Act as the primary contact between drivers and operations.
- Handle customer complaints regarding missed pickups, delays, or service issues.
- Coordinate with drivers to address on-site challenges.
- Escalate unresolved issues to management and implement corrective actions.
- Track the location and availability of dumpsters, roll-off containers, and bins.
- Ensure efficient container rotation and proper allocation to job sites.
- Coordinate with operations to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Ensure drivers adhere to company policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Track and review driver logs, Hours of Service (HOS), and route efficiency.
- Monitor vehicle inspections and ensure maintenance requirements are met.
- Maintain constant communication with drivers via radio, phone, or dispatch systems.
- Provide real-time updates on road conditions, weather, and potential route changes.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and customer service teams for smooth workflow.
- Maintain accurate records of dispatch logs, route adjustments, and service requests.
- Generate reports on driver performance, fuel usage, and service efficiency.
- Analyze operational data to identify and implement areas for improvement.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor’s degree in logistics, transportation, or a related field is a plus).
- Experience in operating heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, or similar machinery is required.
- Prior experience in dispatching, transportation, logistics, or a similar role preferred.
- Experience with logistics, walking floor/long haul drivers, and handling large fleets.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Hours of Service (HOS) compliance.
- Familiarity with dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and routing applications.
