Job summary

Conifex in Mackenzie, BC seeks an experienced Silviculture Superintendent to plan, lead and monitor the full silviculture program including site preparation, planting, brushing, regeneration surveys and free-growing declarations.

This role manages contractors, mentors Supervisors and collaborates with Planning and Harvesting teams to meet long-term forest objectives while upholding safety, environmental stewardship and cost-effective delivery.

Qualifications

  • University degree or technical diploma in Forestry or Natural Resource Management.
  • Minimum 7 years of forestry experience, with supervision of silviculture operations.
  • Proven leadership, communication and project management skills; strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Compliance: ensure safety, FRPA, and Conifex policy compliance across silviculture activities.
  • Silviculture Program Management: plan, implement, and monitor all silviculture phases.
  • Manage Contractors: oversee contractors with focus on safety, quality and environmental standards.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: engage with First Nations, local government and communities.
  • Team Development: mentor Silviculture Supervisors and foster high performance.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: assist in annual budgets and monthly outlooks.
  • Administration & Reporting: manage data, reporting, and results submissions.

Description

As a Silviculture Superintendent, you will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of Conifex's full silviculture program. This is a leadership role suited to an experienced professional who can manage contractors, mentor a team of supervisors, and ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of all reforestation and stand management activities.Working closely with our Planning and Harvesting teams, you will help ensure long-term forest management objectives are met while upholding Conifex's commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable forest management.

Responsibilities
  • Drive Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards, FRPA, and Conifex policies across all silviculture activities.
  • Silviculture Program Management: Plan, implement, and monitor all phases of the silviculture program including site preparation, planting, brushing, regeneration surveys, and free-growing declarations.
  • Manage Contractors: Provide clear direction and oversight to silviculture contractors, with a focus on safety performance, quality of work, and environmental standards.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, First Nations representatives, local government, communities, and other industry partners.
  • Team Development: Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to Silviculture Supervisors, supporting their professional growth and fostering a positive, high-performance culture.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Participate in the development of annual budgets and rolling monthly outlook projections to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Administration & Reporting: Oversee data management, reporting, and compliance documentation including RESULTS submissions and free-growing obligations.
Qualifications
  • Education: A University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry or Natural Resource Management (RPF or RFT designation preferred).
  • Experience: At least 7 years of experience in forestry, including experience supervising Silviculture operations.
  • Skills: Excellent leadership and communication skillsStrong project management capabilitiesIn-depth knowledge of BC forestry legislation, FRPA, and silviculture policiesProficiency in silviculture software (e.g., RESULTS, LRM, Plant Wizard, SNAP)Strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors!
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with BC forestry legislation, SFI certification requirements, and best practices in sustainable forest management.
  • Passion: A genuine interest in reforestation, forest ecology, and long-term stewardship of BC's forests.
