Job summary

Crowhurst Forest Management Group (CFMG) in Campbell River, BC is seeking an experienced Silviculture Forester/Forest Technician for a full-time, permanent role blending office and field work across Vancouver Island and coastal BC.

The successful candidate will conduct silviculture surveys, manage field data, prepare technical reports, and support project delivery while coordinating with clients, contractors, and government representatives.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in forestry, forest technology, forest management, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant forestry experience, including coastal silviculture and operational forestry
  • Experience conducting silviculture surveys and field assessments in coastal BC
  • Experience with GIS/GPS and forestry information systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage field assignments and project responsibilities
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence
  • FPBC registration or eligibility for registration is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Conduct silviculture surveys, regeneration and stocking assessments, and post-harvest field assessments
  • Assess plantation performance, forest health, competing vegetation, and regeneration
  • Interpret site plans, stocking standards, and silviculture obligations
  • Develop silviculture recommendations and treatment strategies
  • Collect, manage, analyze, and report forestry field data
  • Complete GPS-based field data collection and prepare/review GIS mapping
  • Assist with timber cruising, cutblock development, road assessments, and other forest engineering activities
  • Prepare technical reports, maps, field documentation, and project information
  • Coordinate field programs, schedules, and project deliverables
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, forestry professionals, and government representatives
  • Provide technical support and direction to junior forestry staff as required

Job description

Crowhurst Forest Management Group (CFMG) is seeking an experienced Silviculture Forester/Forest Technician to join our team in Campbell River, BC. This is a full-time, permanent position combining office and field work throughout Vancouver Island and coastal British Columbia. The successful candidate will have a strong background in coastal silviculture and operational forestry, with the ability to independently complete field assessments, manage projects, prepare technical documentation, and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other forestry professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct silviculture surveys, regeneration and stocking assessments, and post-harvest field assessments
  • Assess plantation performance, forest health, competing vegetation, and regeneration

  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence
  • FPBC registration or eligibility for registration is an asset

The position requires regular travel throughout Vancouver Island and coastal BC, including work in rural and remote locations. Candidates must be comfortable conducting field work in steep and variable terrain and working in remote field camps for periods of up to 14 consecutive days.
