Job summary

Canfor in Cranbrook, BC is seeking a Forestry Superintendent with a decade of leadership in forest operations to coordinate planning, permitting and silviculture to meet Canfor's fiber needs.

You will lead a diverse team of forest professionals, develop seasonal harvest plans, manage budgets and collaborate with regional partners to advance safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years forestry experience.
• University Degree or Technical Diploma with RFT or RPF Designation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within the organization and supply chain.
• Knowledge of BC forestry legislation and policies.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Ensure planning, permitting, field operations and silviculture activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and Canfor policies.
• Deliver safety results and lead safety leadership within Canfor operations and the forest industry.
• Provide a positive atmosphere for personal and team development.
• Oversee implementation of Strategic and Operational Plans.
• Complete annual budgets and quarterly forecasts; monitor monthly cost projections.
• Drive cost-effective management processes and Canfor Operating System deployment.
• Ensure permitted volume meets facility requirements for fiber quality and cost.
• Direct operations to achieve targets in fiber supply, forest health and stewardship.
• Engage in Indigenous partnerships and regional relationships.
• Lead initiatives on Performance Excellence, Customer Relations, Indigenous Awareness, Diversity and Inclusion.

Canfor is currently looking for a motivated individual with proven leadership experience in forestry operations to join our team as a Forestry Superintendent.

The Forestry Superintendent is responsible for coordinating all planning, timber development, permitting and silviculture activities in Cranbrook to meet the fiber needs for Canfor manufacturing facilities. The Forestry Superintendent will lead a diverse group of forest professionals to prepare seasonal harvest plans consistent with Canfor strategic fiber objectives and stewardship requirements. They will work collaboratively with the Operations Superintendent, Regional Harvest Planner and Woodlands Accountant to achieve the overall company goals, objectives, and strategic initiatives. This is a full-time position and a member of the Canfor Woodlands team.

The life of a Forestry Superintendent includes:

• Ensure planning, permitting, field operations and silviculture activities are conducted in compliance with all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, forestry legislation, Canfor’s Environmental Policy, Forestry Principles, and Forestry Management System.
• Deliver safety results that improve practices and deliver safety leadership within the Canfor’s operations as well as within the forest industry generally.
• Providing and supporting a positive atmosphere for personal, professional and team development.
• Oversee the implementation of Strategic and Operational Plans.
• Complete annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
• Deliver on annual budgets and monthly cost projections.
• Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement by implementing cost effective management processes and participating in the Canfor Operating System deployment strategies
• Ensuring permitted volume meets manufacturing facility requirements for profile, fiber quality, and cost.
• Direct activities for the operations to ensure targets are achieved with respect to Fiber Supply, Forest Health and Stewardship Objectives
• Participate and engage in Indigenous partnerships and relationships
• Liaison and work with Government and Stakeholder on stewardship and operational matters in the region
• Participate and lead strategic initiatives related to Performance Excellence, Customer Relations, Indigenous Cultural Awareness, Diversity, and Inclusion

For this role, you'll come equipped with:

• Minimum of 10 years forestry experience
• University Degree or Technical Diploma with RFT or RPF Designation
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills, with an ability to work collaboratively within the organization and supply chain
• Excellent time management skills and ability to adapt to change
• Excellent performance management skills focused on key performance indicators and results
• Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
• Excellent kno wledge of applicable BC legislation and policies
• Excellent computer skills and related software knowledge including forestry applications

The salary range for this position is: $104,500.00-$149,500.00
