Job summary

CARTE International Inc in Winnipeg is seeking a shotblaster operator responsible for preparing surfaces for paint application by shotblasting and creating a suitable surface profile. The role requires operating and maintaining shotblast equipment, reading blueprints, and safely moving parts with overhead cranes and forklifts.

You will train and mentor less experienced staff, adhere to 5S/Lean practices, and ensure strict safety standards across shifts in days, afternoons, and overnights.

Qualifications

  • Full knowledge of shotblast equipment, operations, and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings specifications.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and hand tools, such as bandsaws.
  • Forklift Operator Certification and Overhead Crane Operator Certification.
  • Willing to work in other departments on a temporary basis as assigned by the manager.
  • Available to work all shifts – days, afternoons, midnights (Mandatory).

Responsibilities

  • Clean and prepare metal components and assemblies prior to operation.
  • Utilize overhead crane and slinging operations to safely transport parts into Shotblast booth and Paint shop.
  • Conduct shotblast operations according to accepted procedures and standards.
  • Inspect and remove shot grit after shotblast operations; prepare components for unloading.
  • Conduct in-process inspections and record results.
  • Provide technical expertise for resolving shotblast problems.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to less experienced shot blasters.
  • Read specifications to determine blast media type for each case.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for preparing surface for application, and also for creating a surface profile for paint to adhere to during the painting process by means of shotblasting.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have full knowledge of shotblast equipment, operations, and processes.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings specifications.
  • Must have knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and hand tools, such as bandsaws
  • Must be certified as a FORKLIFT OPERATOR and OVERHEAD CRANE OPERATOR.
  • Must be willing to work in other departments on a temporary basis as assigned by the manager.
  • Must be available to work all shifts – days, afternoons, midnights (Mandatory).
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety and health regulations.
SKILLS:
  • Ability to achieve and maintain required productivity levels in a dynamic and challenging environment by effectively organizing, prioritizing, and executing tasks.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Capable of performing physical job requirements with ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and consistently reach, bend, sit, stand and climb, and have good working use of all limbs.
  • Reliable, punctual, and positive team-player who is adaptable, open minded, enthusiastic, and takes initiative.
  • Previous knowledge and experience with 5S and Lean Manufacturing considered an asset.
