Description
Foremost has an immediate opening for a Sandblaster at our facility in Lloydminster, AB. The successful candidate will support our production team by safely and efficiently preparing steel components and fabricated products for coating while maintaining Foremost quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and service all equipment associated with sandblasting
- Use sandblasting equipment with specified media
- Prepare components to be protected from abrasives
- Conform to quality control standards and construction specifications, drawings, sketches, layout boards etc. and/or verbal instructions
- Read, understand and follow working instructions/directions, policies and procedures
- Report status of jobs in progress and upcoming production plans
- Maintain frequent contact with QC and Production to ensure all blasting requirements are met
- Follow the company safe work procedures and legislated safety requirements
- Keep a clean work environment
- Comply with all WHMIS and environmental regulations regarding the storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials
- Assist painters and insulators when needed and any other job-related tasks
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure the required cleanliness and surface profile are achieved prior to coating
- Set up, inspect and maintain blasting hoses, nozzles, air lines, respiratory equipment and related blasting equipment before use
- Identify and report equipment defects, quality concerns or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor promptly
- Properly mask and protect machined surfaces, threads, openings and other areas that are not to be blasted
- Follow job-specific specifications and coordinate with Production and Quality Control to ensure work is completed to the required standard and schedule
- Maintain blasting areas, equipment and workspaces in a clean and orderly condition to support safe and efficient operations
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 year oil storage tank internal and external blasting experience
- Sandblasting experience would be an asset
- Familiarity with tank, vessel and pipe coating
- Ability to give and take clear direction; verbal and written
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including standing for extended periods and working in confined or restricted areas as required
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship and safe work practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Ability to safely use required personal protective equipment and respiratory protection for abrasive blasting activities
- Forklift, overhead crane or related material-handling experience would be considered an asset
- This work is performed in a combination of environments and may be exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odours, fumes and oils.
