Job summary

SPS West in Calgary is seeking a dependable Shop / Welding Helper to support our fabrication team. You’ll learn welding and metal fabrication in a busy shop environment, with hands‑on tasks and guidance from experienced tradespeople.

This role offers day shifts, safety‑focused work, and opportunities for advancement as the company grows. Prior shop experience helps but a positive, reliable attitude is essential.

Qualifications

• Reliable and punctual with a consistent work history.
• Experience in manufacturing or welding environments is helpful but not required.
• Mechanically inclined and comfortable using hand and power tools.
• Able to read a tape measure accurately and use basic measuring tools.
• Willing to learn, take direction from skilled tradespeople, and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials for welding and fabrication.
• Grind, deburr, clean, and finish metal components.
• Cut, measure, drill, and prepare parts.
• Move and organize steel, stainless steel, and aluminum parts.
• Assist welders with fitting, positioning, and handling materials.
• Clean and prepare parts before and after welding.
• Assist with assembly of fabricated products.
• Operate basic shop equipment and hand tools.
• Support packaging and shipping of finished products.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Help with material handling and shop organization.
• Follow company safety procedures and quality standards.

Job description

We are looking for a dependable, hands-on Shop / Welding Helper to support our fabrication and manufacturing team.

This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, wants to learn more about metal fabrication and welding, and is comfortable working in a busy industrial shop environment. Previous shop experience is helpful, but attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are equally important.

What You'll Do

The Shop / Welding Helper will assist our welders and fabrication team with day-to-day shop activities, including:

• Preparing materials for welding and fabrication
• Grinding, deburring, cleaning, and finishing metal components
• Cutting, measuring, drilling, and preparing parts
• Moving and organizing steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and fabricated components
• Assisting welders with fitting, positioning, and handling materials
• Cleaning and preparing parts before and after welding
• Helping with assembly of fabricated products
• Operating basic shop equipment and hand tools
• Assisting with packaging and preparing finished products for shipment
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Helping with material handling, shop organization, and general labour as required
• Following company safety procedures and quality standards

Experience That Would Be an Asset

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial, but is not required:

• Welding or metal fabrication
• Grinding and metal finishing
• MIG or TIG welding
• Manufacturing or machine-shop environments
• Forklift or material-handling equipment
• Reading basic fabrication drawings
• Powder coating or surface preparation
