Job summary

Hoisting Ltd. seeks an Apprentice Welder/Steel Fabricator committed to learning their craft at our Nisku, Alberta facility. The role emphasizes safety, quality workmanship, and contributing to a collaborative manufacturing team.

  • Map out welding process with Shop Foreman and assign work.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal pieces using FCAW, MCAW, SMAW or SAW.

A workplace where organization is key, working areas are safe and clean, equipment is maintained and in good working order.

A commitment to the safety rules and regulations whether you are in the shop or on a client site, completing the FLRA or JHA is part of the process, wearing approved PPE, making sure you and your coworkers have been properly oriented and assessed the work before starting.

Welding and Fabrication

Before you turn on the equipment and throughout the project you will review, read, and interpret blueprints, sketches, engineered drawings, welding specifications to ensure the drawings and specifications can function as designed.

Working with the Shop Foreman map out the welding process, and how the work is completed and assigned.

Your knowledge and confidence in the use of manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal pieces, using processes such as:

  • Flux-core arc (FCAW),
  • Metal corded arc welding (MCAW),
  • Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), and
  • Submerged arc welding (SAW).

Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.

Operate and set up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts.

  • Maintaining accurate documentation regarding material traceability (heat numbers, MTR tracking, work orders) is key to our work and the confidence our clients have in our products.
  • You pay particular attention to maintaining the company standards tolerances for all welding and fabricating equipment.
  • Your active contribution to our ISO 9001:2015 Assurance System is valued and important to those you work with and the company maintaining its accreditation standards.
Team and Collaboration
  • We value knowledge and expertise and expect all our communications and collaborations to be respectful and professional, regardless of who you are dealing with and their experience or knowledge.
  • Willingness to accept constructive advice and guidance so you can improve the quality of your work and your contribution to our work processes.
  • On client sites we make sure everyone is informed of our work plan, so we minimize any disruption or confusion and get the work done safely.
What You Need to Bring
  • Registered 2 nd or 3 rd year Alberta Apprentice with letter or Bluebook with the ability to provide trade registration prior to the interview stage is required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Clearance on drug, alcohol, hearing and physical abilities pre-employment testing is required.
  • OSSA Fall Protection, Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, and Fit Testing required.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License required.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time forty (40) hours per week position primarily a day shift cycle. There are times when you are required to work off shift cycles or weekends to meet the work in the shop or on a client site. We plan this work ahead to minimize surprises and the disruption it may cause outside of work.
