The ideal candidate possesses excellent math and blueprint reading capabilities, and proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core) to construct structural steel or custom fabrications according to strict quality and safety specifications.

Position Description:
  • Must be able to read and analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics and weld symbols to plan layouts, assembly sequences and material requirements.
  • Able to measure, cut, grind and bevel metal components using hand and power tools (saws, torches, grinders) and can position, align and fit components together using jigs, fixtures, clamps, levels and squares.
  • Secure aligned parts by tack welding. Execute high-quality final welds on ferrous and non-ferrous metals using manual or semi-automatic equipment including GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW (Flux-Cored), or SMAW (Stick) processes.
  • Inspect finished products and sub-assemblies for dimensions, completeness and conformance to quality assurance standards and weld specifications, identify any defects and perform necessary rework or repairs.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, hoists to position heavy components.
  • Set up, adjust and perform basic troubleshooting on welding machines (regarding voltage and amperage settings).
  • Strictly adhere to all workplace safety policies, regulations and hazardous material protocols. Utilize appropriate PPE at all times and maintain a clean, organized workspace to minimize hazards using 5S methods/standards.
  • Other manufacturing duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years previous experience as a fitter welder, of custom steel fabrication or structural fitting and welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • A current/active welding certification is strongly preferred and is a definite asset (CWB ticket for the GMAW, MCAW process and GTAW).
  • Must have strong ability to read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals and processes.
  • Ability to use Vernier calipers, and weld size gauges; basic math skills are required.
  • Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications.
  • Must have high attention to detail, able to follow written and verbal instruction, and work within a communicated timeline.
  • Ability to work both independently, and as a team player across all levels of the organization.
  • Good physical capability, and a "can do" attitude is a definite asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with an exceptional eye for detail.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, perform repetitive physical tasks, bend, crouch and stand for extended periods in a shop environment.
