Job description

The Welder is responsible for set-up, lay-out, and tack-up of various precision welds related to the manufacturing of helical piles. It requires the ability to tack up structures to tight tolerances, weld to exact specifications, and prepare the final cosmetic finish using grinders and sanders. The role involves operating a crane safely, hoisting, and rigging knowledge. Welders move components and heavy pipes on and off machinery and throughout the facility. They must read complex prints and welding specifications in collaboration with the Supervisor and Weld Inspector. Operation of equipment such as grinders, saws, and drills is also essential.

Shift Hours: Day shift 6:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Thursday

Wage: $25/hr+

Key Accountabilities
  • Collaborate with Supervisors, Labourers, Operators, and Weld Inspectors to perform basic welding of milled steel components.
  • Fit up and weld various components for foundation applications.
  • Work with coworkers to perform safe and efficient setup of work stations, tools, and equipment.
  • Interpret weld symbols and specifications on drawings.
  • Read and interpret work orders, producing according to specifications and drawings.
  • Weld on flat or horizontal geometries.
  • Apply procedural markings such as order numbers or traceability labels.
  • Understand various edge preps before welding.
  • Review real-time production data and meet productivity targets.
  • Ensure workmanship quality, weld to standards, and address deficiencies promptly.
  • Follow and improve weld procedures as documented and communicated.
  • Stay informed on welding industry advancements applicable to Almita.
  • Conduct pre-job and pre-task inspections.
  • Maintain up-to-date safety and job-specific training.
  • Work with Leadhands and Managers to reduce waste and costs in welding processes.
Education / Experience

Required:

  • Registered Journeyman or Apprentice Welder (1st, 2nd, or 3rd year)
  • At least 1 year of experience in manufacturing steel components
  • Experience working in a production or shop environment
  • MCAW and FCAW welding experience
  • Proficient in operating saws, drills, grinders, pedestal grinders, clamps, cranes, hoisting, and rigging
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Ability to work in loud, extreme temperature environments
  • Physical capability to bend, twist, crouch, kneel, stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Overtime may be required
  • Wearing PPE at all times is mandatory
