Overview

The Apprentice Welder is responsible for the fabrication of custom prototypes from supplied drawings, fabrication of custom jigs and fixtures to produce production parts that meet customer specifications, as well as the fabrication of metal structures using jigs and fixtures in a high-paced production environment. This position will work with Supervisors and Lead Hands to ensure continuous improvements in work cells, hitting quotas, and welding according to pre-set parameters using MIG, ARC, and TIG welding processes.

Responsibilities
  1. Read, interpret, and review blueprints or welding process specifications; ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in the intended environment.
  2. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, PAW, SMAW, OAW, resistance welding, and SAW.
  3. Operate brazing, soldering, and manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  4. Operate metal shaping machines like brakes, shears, and other bending machines.
  5. Repair metal parts by welding on extra layers.
  6. Conduct technical inspections, repairs, modifications, and retrofits.
  7. Monitor parts usage and report material issues.
  8. Ensure accuracy and completeness of tasks and projects.
  9. Maintain detailed reports and documentation.
  10. Stay updated on technological, compliance, and repair techniques.
  11. Adhere to safety standards per Silent-Aire Limited Partnership and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  12. Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Registered as an apprentice welder in Alberta and enrolled in a recognized trade school.
  • Working towards Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets.
  • Valid welding certifications in GMAW, SMAW, and all positions.
  • Ability to work under supervision and independently.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Working Conditions
  • Potential 24/7 availability.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required.
  • Compliance with safety policies, including wearing protective equipment.
  • Overtime as needed.
  • Exposure to hazards typical of the trade.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, occasionally at heights and at construction sites.
