Overview
The Apprentice Welder is responsible for fabricating custom prototypes from supplied drawings, creating jigs and fixtures to produce production parts meeting customer specifications, and fabricating metal structures using jigs and fixtures in a high-paced production environment. This role collaborates with Supervisors and Lead Hands to ensure continuous improvements, meet quotas, and weld according to pre-set parameters using MIG, ARC, and TIG welding processes.
Roles & Responsibilities
Read, interpret, and review blueprints or welding process specifications to ensure designs function as intended in their environment.
Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, PAW, SMAW, OAW, SAW) to fuse metal segments.
Operate brazing, soldering, and flame-cutting equipment.
Use metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other bending and straightening tools.
Weld on parts to repair or add layers to metal products.
Conduct inspections, repairs, modifications, and retrofits.
Monitor parts usage and report material issues.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of tasks and projects.
Maintain detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
Stay updated on technological, compliance, and repair technique changes.
Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire safety standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Be registered as an apprentice welder in Alberta and enrolled in a recognized trade school.
Work towards Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets.
Hold valid welding certifications in GMAW, SMAW, and other positions.
Ability to work under supervision, independently, and as part of a team.
Experience with routine maintenance operations.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work well under pressure with strong attention to detail.
Working Conditions
Availability for 24/7 shifts may be required.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Travel to off-site locations may be necessary.
Adherence to safety policies and wearing protective equipment is mandatory.
Overtime may be required.
Work involves hazards typical of the trade, both indoors and outdoors, occasionally at heights, and may include exposure to construction sites.
