Job summary

Falcon Equipment in Nanaimo, BC is seeking a skilled heavy equipment mechanic to join our team. You will supervise the shop floor, mentor technicians, and perform maintenance and testing on crane, snow/ice, and rail equipment.

Ideal candidates have a Red Seal or are in the final year of an apprenticeship with related experience, plus the ability to read schematics and troubleshoot. Own tools are required and welding is a plus.

Qualifications

• Red Seal preferred for heavy equipment technicians.
• Minimum 5+ years of related experience or similar apprenticeship level.
• Apprenticeship in final year accepted with related heavy equipment experience.
• Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot problems.
• Welding experience is an asset.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Own tools required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise shop floor activities.
• Train technicians in installation methods, safety, policies and procedures.
• Perform maintenance, repairs and testing on equipment focusing on cranes, snow/ice, and rail gear.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervise the activities of the shop floor
• Train technicians in installation methods, safety, policies and procedures
• Perform maintenance, repairs and testing on our customers’ various types of equipment focusing on truck-mounted cranes, snow and ice, and rail equipment
• Performing other duties as required

Qualifications

• 5+ years of related experience with heavy equipment installations and/or maintenance
• Their Red Seal Certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician / Mechanic
• OR will be in their 4th year of their apprenticeship with related heavy equipment experience
• OR a combination of related education and work experience
• Leadership and organizational skills
• Hydraulic and electrical experience and knowledge is a definite asset
• Solid mechanical skills with the ability to troubleshoot problems and read schematics
• The ability to maneuver in and around heavy equipment
• The ability to work independently
• Your own tools
• Welding experience is a definite asset
