Job summary

Davie is seeking a Shipbuilder to support trades teams in a major Canadian shipyard. You will read drawings and work orders, assist with painting, insulation, cabling, and cargo handling, while performing metal finishing and housekeeping across tanks and workshops.

You will operate forklifts, report quality issues, and uphold safety and productivity standards in a dynamic yard environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • ASP card for labourers (or equivalent).
  • DEP in a related field is a plus.
  • Experience in an industrial environment is an asset.
  • Successful completion of security clearance under the Federal Government program is required.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings and work orders to support trades teams in the shipyard.
  • Assist with painting, insulation, pre-cutting cabling, and driving trucks.
  • Perform metal finishing and cleaning, polishing bevels, and maintain housekeeping in tanks and shops.
  • Handle and move materials (cement, sand, water, etc.) and operate forklifts and other mobile equipment.
  • Report non-conformities and participate in quality control per the company's standards.

As a Shipbuilder, you’ll support the trades teams and keep the yard moving by reading and interpreting drawings and work orders; assisting with painting, installing insulation, pre-cutting cabling, and driving trucks; performing metal finishing such as grinding and making, cleaning, and polishing bevels; maintaining housekeeping standards in tanks, vessel interiors, shops, trailers, and washrooms while handling waste; and managing the handling and movement of materials (cement, sand, snow, grass, water, and more). You will also ensure quality control by reporting any non-conformities, set up and maintain tools and equipment, operate forklifts and other mobile equipment, and carry out any other related duties assigned by your supervisor, in full compliance with our quality standards.

Compensation
  • $31,66/hour for the first 1,000 hours, then $34.99/hour.
  • Overtime paid at double time.
Work Schedule
  • Day: 4-day workweek, 10 hours per day
  • Evening: 4-day workweek, 10 hours per day + $2.00/hour premium
  • Weekend: 3-day workweek, 12 hours per day + $2.50/hour premium

You must be available for all shifts. While we consider your schedule preferences (day, evening, weekend) when creating schedules, they cannot be guaranteed.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, OR
  • ASP card for labourers OR
  • DEP in a related field OR
  • Experience in an industrial environment (asset).
  • Successful completion of the security clearance process required under the Federal Government Contract Security Program (minimum 5 years of continuous residence in Canada with no interruption longer than 6 consecutive months).
