Job summary

Davie, Canada's largest shipyard, is seeking a meticulous technician to assemble and install mechanical systems on Navy and commercial vessels. You will read plans, assemble piping, HVAC, marine mechanics, and cabinetry, perform pressure tests, and participate in commissioning aboard ships.

Reporting to the Foreman, you will handle forklift operations, adjust equipment, and contribute to safe, efficient ship assembly.

Qualifications

  • DEP in Heavy Machinery, Marine Mechanics, or Plumbing-Heating (pipefitting).
  • Successful completion of security clearance under Federal Government Contract Security Program (minimum 5 years of continuous residence in Canada).

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, adjust and fasten mechanical components related to piping, HVAC, marine mechanics and cabinetry.
  • Read plans and work orders, perform workshop assembly and pressure tests.
  • Operate forklifts or trucks and participate in system commissioning aboard ships.

Even great teams need a break! Our shipyard will be closed for a summer shutdown from July 18 to August 2.

Are you meticulous, curious, and passionate about heavy machinery? At Davie, you will participate in assembling strategic components that power the country’s largest ships. Reporting to the Foreman, you will be responsible for installing, assembling, adjusting, and fastening mechanical components related to piping, ventilation, heating, air conditioning (HVAC), marine mechanics, and metal cabinetry systems.

You will read plans and work orders, handle workshop assembly, perform pressure tests, adjust mechanical equipment, operate forklifts or trucks, and actively participate in the commissioning of systems aboard ships.

Compensation
  • $34.64/hour for the first 1,000 hours, then a rate of $38.49/hour.
  • Overtime paid at double time.
Work Schedule
  • Day: 4‑day workweek, 10 hours per day
  • Evening: 4‑day workweek, 10 hours per day + $2.00/hr premium
  • Weekend: 3‑day workweek, 12 hours per day + $2.50/hr premium
  • Frigate premium (military vessel): $1.25/hr regardless of shift.

You must be available for all shifts. While we consider your schedule preferences (day, evening, weekend) when creating schedules, they cannot be guaranteed.

Relocation

At Davie, we know that moving is a big change. To welcome you to the region, we offer a relocation allowance for unionized production and maintenance employees: up to $2,500 for a single person or couple, and $4,000 for a family. Requirements
  • DEP in Heavy Machinery, Marine Mechanics, or Plumbing-Heating (pipefitting)
