Job summary

Davie, Canada's largest shipyard, is seeking a Shipbuilder to support trades teams in reading drawings, installing insulation, painting, cabling, and material handling. You will operate forklifts, maintain cleanliness, and report any non-conformities to ensure quality.

Relocation assistance is available and comprehensive benefits apply. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, an ASP card (or DEP), and may require security clearance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • ASP card for labourers required.
  • DEP in related field preferred.
  • Industrial experience preferred.
  • Security clearance through Federal Government Contract Security Program (5 years continuous residence in Canada)

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings and work orders to support trades teams.
  • Assist with painting, insulation installation, pre-cutting cabling, and driving trucks.
  • Operate forklifts and other mobile equipment safely.
  • Maintain housekeeping in tanks, vessels, shops, trailers, and washrooms; manage waste.
  • Report non-conformities and contribute to quality control and tool/equipment setup.

As a Shipbuilder, you’ll support the trades teams and keep the yard moving by reading and interpreting drawings and work orders; assisting with painting, installing insulation, pre‑cutting cabling, and driving trucks; performing metal finishing such as grinding and making, cleaning, and polishing bevels; maintaining housekeeping standards in tanks, vessel interiors, shops, trailers, and washrooms while handling waste; and managing the handling and movement of materials (cement, sand, snow, grass, water, and more). You will also ensure quality control by reporting any non‑conformities, set up and maintain tools and equipment, operate forklifts and other mobile equipment, and carry out any other related duties assigned by your supervisor, in full compliance with our quality standards.

You must be available for all shifts. While we consider your schedule preferences (day, evening, weekend) when creating schedules, they cannot be guaranteed.

Compensation
  • $31.66/hour for the first 1,000 hours, then $34.99/hour.
  • Overtime paid at double time.
Work Schedule
  • Day: 4‑day workweek, 10 hours per day
  • Evening: 4‑day workweek, 10 hours per day + $2.00/hour premium
  • Weekend: 3‑day workweek, 12 hours per day + $2.50/hour premium

Requirements

To maintain the quality of our operations, you must have one of the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, OR
  • ASP card for labourers, OR
  • DEP in a related field, OR
  • Experience in an industrial environment (asset).
  • Successful completion of the security clearance process required under the Federal Government Contract Security Program (minimum 5 years of continuous residence in Canada with no interruption longer than 6 consecutive months).
