Job summary

The Salvation Army Richmond House Emergency Shelter in Richmond, BC is seeking a dedicated Shelter Worker to monitor guest activities, ensure safety, and support residents’ case plans. The role involves basic intake, safety checks, and maintaining a respectful, supportive environment.

You will collaborate with Case Workers, facilitate guest activities, and liaise with external agencies. Requires compassion, reliability, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced shelter setting.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Social Services or related field.
• Minimum two years of experience with the homeless population.
• Training in Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT).
• Training in crisis intervention, conflict resolution and mediation skills.
• First Aid and CPR certificate.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness and order of the shelter during shifts.
• Carry out security and safety checks of property and grounds.
• Record day-to-day happenings and incident reports in logbooks.
• Ensure care and safety of guests, including bed checks and searches.
• Assist guests with case plans and provide personal, practical, and moral support.
• Engage guests with activities and coordinate with external agencies as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings directed by the supervisor.
