The Salvation Army in Abbotsford is seeking a Shelter Worker to provide a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors. You will monitor activities, maintain records, and coordinate with external agencies to support client care and safety.
Qualifications include high school completion and Addictions Counselling courses; frontline social services experience is preferred. The pay follows the collective agreement with benefits and accommodations available.

JOB PURPOSE: Shelter Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.
The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months (Addictions Facilities). NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
The successful applicant will hold/have: Addiction Facility - Addictions Counselling Courses **See Precautionary Measures**
The incumbent must have the following experience before hire: More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including, experience with frontline work in a social services setting.
The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding, and performing walk abouts.
The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.
The incumbent’s responsibility for Financial Resources: The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.
The incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources: The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students.
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a shelter and/or in treatment facilities. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

The pay rate is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors. The target hiring range for this position is $22.98 to $23.10 with a maximum of $23.21. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
