Job summary

Pratt & Whitney Canada in Saint-Hubert, QC is seeking an experienced assembler for engine part components. You will perform assembly and rework, operate sheet metal machines, and ensure quality through dimensional checks.

Role requires DEP in precision sheet metal work, ability to read blueprints, and good teamwork. French environment with basic English; training and advancement opportunities offered.

Qualifications

  • DEP in precision sheet metal work is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with SAP and Windows-based systems is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in sheet metal operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly and rework operations on engine part components and detail assemblies.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust sheet metal working machines such as laser cutters, presses, plasma spray, and shot peening machines.
  • Perform deburring, weld preparation, marking, washing, masking, scraping, polishing, cutting, drilling, riveting, and sandblasting on various parts.
  • Work from drawings and instructions, ensuring dimensions and quality standards are met.
  • Conduct dimensional and visual checks using precision instruments and maintain records for SPC.
  • Operate a forklift to move fixtures and parts as needed.
  • Report difficulties to supervisor and participate in training with teammates.

What your day-to-day will look like?
General Responsibilities
  • Perform assembly and rework operations on engine part components and detail assemblies.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust sheet metal working machines such as laser cutters, presses, plasma spray, and shot peening machines.
  • Perform deburring, weld preparation, marking, washing, masking of all types, scraping, polishing, cutting, drilling, riveting, dent removal, spot welding, and sandblasting on various parts, including the correction of manufacturing defects.
  • Work from verbal instructions, manufacturing method sheets, schedules, drawings, and other written instructions, and perform all necessary changes and adjustments to meet required dimensions.
  • Perform dimensional and visual checks on parts during the manufacturing process as indicated or required using various types of precision measuring instruments and verification gauges, and maintain appropriate records of various parameters to establish efficient operations with statistical process control.
  • Operate a forklift to move hydraulic press fixtures.
  • Operate and adjust mechanical or hydraulic presses with electronic/mechanical/manual adjustment to perform forming, punching, deburring, cutting, and trimming operations on engine parts.
  • Perform forming operations and adjustments required to compensate for material springback and for developing parts.
  • May be called upon to operate multiple nearby machines simultaneously.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development of new processes, products, and reworks for the selection of methods and tools.
  • Wash, preserve, package, identify, and move parts while ensuring compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Take necessary items from stores and bins and report material outputs and needs to the supervisor.
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure, among other things, that fluid levels are adequate, filters are clean, and the general condition of the machine complies with the checklist. Keep equipment and workspace clean and in good condition.
  • Participate in training and share knowledge with teammates on various equipment and tasks.
  • Perform other similar tasks of lesser or equal complexity related to the aforementioned duties.
  • Report difficulties to the department supervisor.
What you need to succeed
  • DEP in precision sheet metal work
  • Mastery of documentation and blueprint reading (manufacturing drawings);
  • Excellent learning ability;
  • Analytical mind and problem-solving ability (comprehension and logic);
  • Interpersonal skills: teamwork and positive attitude;
  • Familiarity with computer systems, Windows operating system, and SAP;
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • This position takes place in a French-speaking work environment; nevertheless, it requires basic knowledge of English to understand certain specialized work instructions, drawings, and technical terms that may originate from international organizations.
