We are hiring for a Set-Up Manager. This is a full-time position, responsible for assisting the Aramark catering department and the Thompson Rivers University Conference Centre staff in coordinating and carrying out events, playing a key role in ensuring events are set up properly and run smoothly and accurately.

They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the event set-up staff who work on campus to set up all room layouts for catered functions. The position includes administrative tasks such as managing staff, scheduling, ordering supplies, and reviewing and completing paperwork.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the event set-up staff who work on campus to set up all room layouts for catered functions.
  2. Heavy lifting of large equipment such as stage, dance floor, tables, AV equipment, etc.
  3. Coordinate with venue and catering staff to ensure facilities, equipment, and materials are properly set up prior to an event.
  4. Execute set-ups with the utmost care and attention, ensuring every job is completed satisfactorily.
  5. Act as the "eyes" in a room, checking final details to make the room appear flawless (e.g., cleaning, furniture, and item placement).
  6. Maintain all banquet areas and storage rooms, ensuring they are neat and tidy during and after shifts.
  7. Perform cleaning duties of banquet storage rooms, vacuuming banquet spaces, organizing equipment.
  8. Train new team members.
  9. Portray a professional image by wearing the assigned uniform and being well-groomed.
  10. Handle administrative tasks such as managing staff, scheduling, ordering supplies, inventory, and reviewing billing and paperwork.
  11. Occasionally serve as the primary point of contact for clients on event days.
  12. Work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  13. Maintain courteous and professional conduct with guests, staff, and management.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years' experience in a supervisory role required.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Full-time availability with flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and overnights.
  • Good physical condition to stand for long periods and walk long distances.
  • Ability to lift approximately 40 lbs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience as a manager or supervisor in a heavy labor or catering environment is essential.
  • Successfully pass a criminal record check.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Reliability, dependability, and trustworthiness.

This role may involve physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended walking or standing. Uniforms and PPE may be required.

Education

Minimum 1-2 years of experience.

Compensation Data

Salary range: $51,500 - $63,860 CAD per year.
