Job summary

Coherent Corp. in Ottawa seeks an experienced software verification engineer to design, execute and automate tests for optical transmission systems.

You will validate management interfaces via CLI and gRPC, build Python automation scripts, and implement CI/CD pipelines for regression testing. The role covers end-to-end testing, traceability, and creating test summaries for each release, with exposure to 100G/400G/800G optics and DWDM systems.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Engineering or CS required.
• 5+ years in communications verification/test.
• Experience in automated northbound interface testing: Netconf/YANG, CLI, SNMP.
• Experience in testing Linux-based embedded systems.
• Experience in Python for automation testing.
• Experience with TCP/IP, Ethernet, OTN networks.
• Familiarity with DWDM optical systems and 100G/400G/800G optics.
• Familiarity with lab bench debugging tools like oscilloscopes and optical spectrum analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Discuss and review system requirement documents and analyses with cross-functional teams.
• Design and develop test plans covering functional, performance and boundary scenarios; create traceability matrices.
• Establish verification practices aligned with sister team’s tools and processes.
• Validate management interfaces via CLI and gRPC interfaces.
• Conduct end-to-end testing of optical transmission systems and measure BER, Q-factor, latency, OSNR.
• Develop/maintain Python automation scripts and implement CI/CD for regression testing.
• Create test summary reports for each release.
• Maintain daily sanity tests and regression tests for software/hardware upgrades.
• Design new test cases based on customer findings or feature requests.
