Senior Optical Systems Engineer - Coherent DSP Validation

Celero Communications, Inc.; Ottawa; On-site; CAD 150,000 - 190,000; Full time

Job summary

Celero Communications, Inc. is seeking a Principal Optical Systems Engineer to lead the verification and integration of advanced coherent optical DSP solutions.

You will define system specifications, drive test strategies, and guide cross-domain debugging across DSP, optics, and hardware for 1.6T and beyond. The role requires deep expertise in communication theory, DSP algorithms, and optical systems, with a track record of leadership in validating coherent DSP products such as 400ZR and 800ZR.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree required: Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Communications, Photonics, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in coherent optical or high-speed communication systems.
• Proven track record leading system verification of coherent optical DSP products (e.g., 400ZR, 800ZR, coherent-lite).
• Hands-on with optical hardware, EVBs, pluggable modules, and high-speed test/measurement equipment (OSA, RTO, DCA, AWG).
• Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C.

Responsibilities

• Translate system requirements into DSP performance targets for equalization, clock recovery, and laser phase recovery.
• Define link budgets and collaborate with module partners to optimize link margin.
• Develop high-fidelity models correlating with ROSNR and receiver sensitivity.
