iA Financial Group in Toronto is seeking a Senior Underwriter - LIFE to assess complex life, health, and disability insurance risks and guide profitable decisions. You will also act as a subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced underwriters in a collaborative, high-stakes environment.

In this hybrid role, you will negotiate terms with reinsurers, review challenging files, and partner with IT and Business Analysts on a new automated underwriting system while upholding client-focused

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic background.
• 8+ years of experience in individual life insurance underwriting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret medical and non-medical information.
• Excellent negotiation, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
• Outstanding written and spoken English communication.

As a Senior Underwriter , you will play a central role in our mission. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Analyzing complex life, health, and disability insurance cases by applying established underwriting guidelines.
• Negotiating the best possible terms with reinsurers to deliver competitive and client-focused solutions.
• Reviewing, assessing, and recommending solutions for the most complex underwriting files.
• Acting as a mentor and coach to less experienced underwriters.
• Collaborating with IT teams and Business Analysts as a subject matter expert in the implementation of a new automated underwriting system.

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a bachelor’s degree or another relevant academic background.
• Has more than 8 years of experience in individual life insurance underwriting or a similar role.
• Is recognized for strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in assessing medical and non-medical information to make sound underwriting decisions.
• Demonstrates excellent negotiation skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
• Possesses outstanding communication skills and a client-focused mindset, consistently delivering high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines.
• Has excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

The typical hiring range for this position is between $90,000 and $115,000 CAD per year , based on a 37.5-hour work week. The base salary offered may vary depending on knowledge, skills, relevant experience, and internal equity related to the role.
